Bannock

Credits: "Wilderness Cookery" by Bradford Angier
  1. Warm a greased frying pan
  2. Mix ingredients thoroughly
  3. Working quickly, stir in enough cold water to make a firm dough
  4. Shape, with as little handling as possible, into a cake about an inch think
  5. Dust the loaf lightly with flour
  6. Lay the bannock in the warm frypan, holding it over the heat until a bottom crust forms, rotating the pan a little so the loaf will shift and not get stuck
  7. When a crust forms on the bottom, flip over and and heat until a crust forms on the bottom
  8. Continue heating, flipping occasionally, until both sides are browned and a toothpick comes out clean, about 15 minutes
  9. Crack open, slather with butter, and serve!

This recipe was designed to be made over an open fire, but can easily be made at home on the stove as well.
